Serving Families with Significant Wealth and Complexity

The Grupp Organization is a boutique firm in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, focused on sophisticated planning, fiduciary structures, Private Family Trust Company administration, and family office services.

From our Jackson, Wyoming office, we work with families seeking thoughtful structures for managing significant wealth across generations.

Our work extends beyond forming entities and drafting documents. We help families build structures capable of functioning effectively over time.

That requires attention to governance, administration, fiduciary responsibility, communication, continuity, and the relationships among the family’s various professional advisors.

Our Approach

Structure With Purpose

We believe sophisticated planning should ultimately serve the people behind the wealth. That means understanding not simply what a family owns, but what it hopes to accomplish.

  • What should this wealth make possible?
  • How should decisions be made?
  • Who should participate?
  • How should future generations become involved?
  • How can trusted advisors work together more effectively?
  • How can structures remain useful as the family changes?

These questions inform our approach to Private Family Trust Companies and family office services.

Family Flourishing

We believe wealth is most valuable when it contributes to the long-term flourishing of the family and the communities it touches.
  • Strong governance can help families communicate more effectively.
  • Thoughtful education can prepare future generations for responsibility.
  • Intentional philanthropy can translate family values into meaningful impact.
  • Sound fiduciary structures can provide continuity through changing generations.

Our work seeks to bring these elements together.

“We exist to empower families to leave a multi-generational legacy.”

— Matthew Grupp, President & CEO

A Collaborative Model

Families with significant wealth rarely rely upon a single professional.

They may work with attorneys, investment advisors, accountants, business managers, insurance professionals, trustees, consultants, and specialists across multiple jurisdictions.

We believe these relationships should work together rather than operate in isolation.

Our collaborative approach allows us to work alongside the professionals a family already knows and trusts while helping establish the governance and coordination necessary to support the family’s broader objectives.

Wyoming Roots. Multigenerational Perspective.

Our principal office is located in Jackson, Wyoming, placing our team in one of the country’s leading jurisdictions for sophisticated trust planning.

We also maintain an office in Post Falls, Idaho.

From these locations, we serve families seeking thoughtful approaches to wealth, governance, stewardship, and continuity.

Matthew Grupp, J.D., LL.M.

Private Client Attorney

“Every art and every inquiry, and likewise every action and choice, seems to aim at some good, and hence it has been beautifully said that the good is that at which all things aim.” -Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics, Book 1, Chapter 1

As a Wyoming Trust and Estates Attorney, Matthew Grupp leads by example at The Grupp Law Firm LLC. He champions his clients’ needs and seeks opportunities to help families flourish. Matthew has experience at every level of estate planning. He believes that each estate, whether simple or complex, represents a client’s life work, and therefore should be meaningfully gifted and carefully protected. While tax planning is important and very important to our planning, the meaning for the gift is the the chief concern.

Matthew has extensive experience as a Private Family Trust Company and Family Office executive representing ultra-affluent clients, who include entrepreneurs, corporate executives, and families with inherited wealth. Matthew coordinates with his clients’ other professional advisors to best address his clients’ family and business objectives.

From 1997-2005, Matthew Grupp worked as a Senior Tax Manager in the Mergers & Acquisitions practice in the Los Angels and San Francisco office at Deloitte & Touche, LLP. His work concentrated on Tax Strategies for Corporate Acquisitions, Dispositions, Spin-Offs, Joint Ventures, Financings, Reorganizations & Restructurings. This work was divided between Private Equity and Strategic transactions for many market leaders, to include Texas Pacific Group, Black Stone, KKR, Dole Food, Pacificare Health, and Washington Mutual. In 2005, he organized The Grupp Law Firm and shifted his focus to Trust and Estate Planning, with a concentration on the needs of business owning clients. That said, he is happy to help non-business owning clients as well.

He earned a B.A. in Classical Languages (Greek and Latin) and Philosophy from the University of Montana, a J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law, an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law, and a Masters of Arts in Philosophy (with a concentration in Christian Wisdom) from Holy Apostles College & Seminary. “The old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

Theodore focuses his estate planning practice on understanding a family’s vision for the future and developing a plan around it. He has found that tax saving strategies should be harmonized with the family’s unique goals in order for the resulting estate plan to be truly beneficial.

In October 2026, he joined The Grupp Law Firm because of an alignment of his values and the legal practice that he saw flourishing at the firm.

He graduated cum laude from the University of California, Irvine, School of Law. While there, he earned a Juris Doctorate and an LL.M. (Taxation).
